In the last few months there has been a movement in the blindness community to bring sexual abuse and harassment to light and take steps to put an end to it. On this episode, Leslie, George and Meaghan welcome Laura Millar, a researcher and teacher of sexual health for people with disabilities, and Bobbi Pompey, a living skills instructor at the Lighthouse for the Blind in San Fransisco, to discuss consent and boundaries, not only in relationships but in our everyday interactions as well.

Jason discusses the Philips SHP9500 and the V-MODA BoomPro Microphone. After recording the show, he has decided to return the headphones and purchase another closed back pair. He also has been able to get the microphone working with his Mac.

Michael has purchased the M1 MacBook Pro.

Michael and Taylor are working on an accessible Markdown application that will allow you to preview your work in real-time.

Taylor is working on creating an accessibility LaTeX editor that will allow you to write and preview math equations.

iACast 151 – Security Lessons Learned

On this episode, Michael, Taylor, Jason and Jim discuss their Thanksgiving activities, and any Black Friday purchases they did or didn’t make. They also discuss methods you can employ that will help you keep your information safe online.
Methods include using unique passwords, ensuring you have two-factor authentication enabled for your accounts, using a password manager and more. You can use a site called Have I Been Pwned to check if your passwords and email address have been compromised.
They talk about 1Password and LastPass. Jason talks about the Web Authentication API, which allows you to log into websites with Face ID and Touch ID. Taylor talks about KeePass, an open source password manager. She also mentions Temp Mail, a service that lets you create disposable email addresses.

With the holidays fast approaching. Meaghan, George, and Leslie discuss methods for keeping yourself safe while shopping in stores and online. They discuss the added need to be aware of and practice safety protocols during COVID 19 as well as how to look out for such things as; porch pirates who try to steal your packages, online scams, and your social media exposure. For more information about online shopping safety, visit the FBI’s 12 Days of Online Safety Tips. If you do become a victim of cyber crime, the FBI asks victims to report cybercrime immediately to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center or the local FBI office. For tips on protecting your home and yourself during the holidays, check out the Washington Metropolitan Police Department’s page.
